Who is the Funniest Person Alive? by Luis Moro
One laugh can change the world. With all of the resources available today, there’s no reason to live a disempowered life. We’re all one thought away from either being the happiest we’ve ever been or spiraling into a deep depression. Laughing is one sure thought to empower yourself, your life, and the people around you.
You could say this is a profound statement, but if you are genuinely aware of the opportunities in your life, you can see that finding humor in all of them is one hilarious way to live a great life. I was inspired to start Santa Barbara Comedy Nights by Comedian Dave Chappelle and his Ohio Cornfield shows during the Covid-19 pandemic, which instantly closed all Comedy Clubs. Dave Chappelle created a way to give live comedy life. We can all do the same. Create a way to live the life you love.
Santa Barbara is home to some of the world’s funniest people. Of course, we have the entertainment industry’s best from stand-up comics, actors, hosts, writers, directors, producers, and other talents. But really, who is the funniest? Carol Burnett, Ellen DeGeneres, Julia Louis-Dryfus, Rob Lowe, Conan O’Brien, Jayne Lynch, Oprah Winfrey, Ivan Reitman, Dennis Miller, Luis Moro (did you laugh)?
Santa Barbara is also home to some of the worst natural disasters that can occur. We’ve had massive fires, debris flows, and now the current Covid-19 pandemic. After speaking to many locals, it was clear our community was experiencing the same stress and depression impacting the rest of the country. However, through it all, Santa Barbarians persevere. But our collective community humor seemed to be missing. I could not stand by.
I wanted to create a comedy home base with a weekly, reliable, and most of all, safe, healthy environment. So I searched many locations for a show venue, but it wasn’t until I spoke to Colin Campbell of the World-Famous Red Piano that we knew we had a winner. Thus, the Backstage Comedy Club was born in the Red Pianos VIP Patio. A great ocean air-breezed outdoor patio with a fantastic professional stage.Get Tickets
BUILD IT AND THEY WILL LAUGH.
I launched Santa Barbara Thursday Night Comedy, and it’s doing fantastic! Santa Barbara is thirsty for comedy. Every week locals come to get comedy relief from their daily lives. Laughter is one of the best medicines. Anyone can laugh to heal their mind, body, soul, and spirit. Our stand-up comedian community is vital in Santa Barbara, and we’re delivering.
We also have great out-of-town comedians delivering incredible shows. Every week our guests include some of the funniest people alive. Don’t be surprised when an A-List comic surprises the audience. Santa Barbarians leave shows rejuvenated to tackle their world with love, joy, and laughter.
Suppose I leave you with one piece of advice. Find humor in everything you do. Heal and inspire yourself, friends, and families by laughing daily. Join us Thursdays, and we’ll make sure you laugh! You are always one hearty laugh away from being motivated to change the world. At the very least, you can bring peace and laughter to yourself and the people in your life. And that is changing your world. Who is the funniest person alive? You are the funniest person alive!
See you Thursday Nights at the Backstage Comedy Club at the Red Piano, 519 State Street. The Comedy Room opens at 7 pm and the show starts at 7:30 pm.
